How is the Bluebook renewal charge calculated in Nepal?

The annual renewal (नवीकरण) charge is the provincial vehicle tax for your engine size, plus a flat renewal fee (Rs 300 for two-wheelers, Rs 500 for four-wheelers), plus a late fine if the renewal is overdue. Compulsory third-party insurance is paid separately.

Why does the tax differ by province?

Vehicle tax in Nepal is a provincial tax. Each of the seven provinces sets its own rates every year through its Finance Act, so a bike or car of the same CC can cost a different amount to renew in Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and the rest.

How much is the late fine for renewing my bike or car late?

The fine is a percentage of the vehicle tax: about 5% within 30 days of expiry, 10% up to 45 days, and 20% until the end of the fiscal year. Renewals overdue by more than a full fiscal year add roughly 32% of the tax per extra year.

How is electric vehicle (EV) tax calculated?

EVs are taxed nationally by motor power in kilowatts (kW) rather than CC — roughly Rs 3,000 up to 50 kW, Rs 4,000 up to 125 kW, Rs 6,000 up to 200 kW and Rs 7,500 above — so the EV tax is the same in every province.
